Dear
ESM2006 participants,
The
conference venue Spitzingsee is located in the Bavarian
Alps, a perfect location for outdoor activities.
It
is planned to be outdoors for 6-7 hours during which
we will offer moderate level mountain biking or hiking
followed by a barbeque party on Woerth Island at Lake
Schliersee, a small lake in the area.
For
those attendees wishing to hike, we plan a tour up
to Mount Rotwand and down to the Pfanngraben fresh
water basins. Please wear appropriate shoes for hiking.
The hikers will meet the mountain bike group around
lunchtime at Pfanngraben to have lunch and possibly
cool their feet.
We all return to the tour starting point, ArabellaSheraton
Hotel, where a bus will be waiting to take the hikers
to Lake Schliersee. The ferry will be waiting to take
us to the Island.
For
the mountain bikers a moderate ride on forest roads
is planned. The mountain bike tour in the Bavarian
Alps will end up directly at Lake Schliersee, where
the bikers will once again meet with the hikers and
everyone will board the Island ferry.
Transportation
from the island will be no later than 11:00 pm. Those
who would like to stay longer will have a nice 2000
meter challenge night swim (no sharks!).
Please
let us know by email what activity you would like
to do so we can prepare for the events and reserve
the necessary number of bicycles. A 20.00 euro fee
is required for the bike rental. Please specify name,
gender, and bike size when confirming your mountain
bike tour participation.
Those who do not wish to participate in hiking or
biking will be required to sing two songs on the island
and wash all the party dishes.
August in Bavaria can be very warm (up to 34 degrees
C), but it can also rain with temperatures down to
17 degrees C. Therefore, please make sure you have
appropriate clothing and do not forget your swimsuit
and towel.
Information should be provided for both attendees
and accompanying persons.
